by the idea that president obama and candidate obama talked about in 2008. if he would have had ideas and talk in ways in which it was inconsistent with the general consensus politically and the black community on a range of issues, i don't think he would of got the kind of support that ultimately he was able to get. the inauguration is not just the swearing in ceremony and a parade. there are many other events that go on as well. that is where i think maybe there has been some significant changes as the money in campaigning and the big corporate spenders and big individual spenders have grown over the years, i think that may have changed what ultimately becomes part of the overall inauguration atmosphere. when you get outside of the mall and look at private parties and other events, i think you get a better picture of where some of the money in politics has influenced and as an expression host: people are arriving at union station which is one of the major metro stops for the capital. you can see them coming out there and coming down to the mall and to the

when president obama was inaugurated in 2009, he sat in the very front of the church in pew 62. if you are talking about a regular church service, the president would come in to the eighth street entrance, a walk down the aisle, said in a dispute, and be part of the worship service with the rest of the church. one of the great things about st. john's is this book of common prayer published in 1866. it has embossed upon it, president pugh. this book of common prayer was used from president buchanan forward until it was taken out of service when a new edition was published in the 18 eighties. but 1961, laid service was planned at st. john's to recognize the tenants of abraham lincoln, the organist at st. john's found this in the archives and discussed it with church leaders at the time. they thought would be a good idea to have every president still living to sign it and every president that would follow them to sign it as well. so what we have inside this historic book are the signatures of herbert hoover, franklin roosevelt's, which was signed by his wife, harry truman, dwight e

let's talk a bit more on the politics here of gun control. listen, what president obama proposed is sweeping and it's huge. the conversation now is what can actually get passed? give us a sense of what measures go passed? >> very little can get passed in the next couple of years. there's no doubt it's an emotionally charge issue. the polling numbers show that there does seem to be some movement at the public at large. but in congress there's simply is not. particularly among republicans and house republicans specifically. you talk to these members. teen moderate members in suburban districts even those in the northeast. they hear very little from their constituents in terms of stricter gun laws. i don't think there's any appetite among republicans to bring a bill to the floor in the house. >> so why do this then? you know, you have john boehner speaker of the house saying it's the senate's job and joe scarborough talks about how the nra being on the fringe now and the republicans are up against it in terms of an identity in their party. is th

there's talk that the obama administration is making a push on early childhood administration. if you can do that in a big way is the single best investment we can make. obviously immigration reform is something on the table that gets talked about. immigrants are incredibly important to the economy. so, if you can do that, again, it would be a huge boom to the economy. one of the questions, in terms of a better growth pattern, whether we can get out of the deficit conversation. one smart thing republicans have done here is enforcing it to be an endless series of self-endeuced crises. there's no other agenda. it sucks up all of washington. >> that's the problem with the three month extension. the republicans blinking and suggesting i want to fight this debt ceiling on this debt ceiling front, which would be good. they are going to keep us going every three months. we never get around to talking about the larger economic question. >> i don't want to have that conversation in the context of the three-month debt ceiling deals. if we are going talk entitlements, is there room to pus
